Recently I went to the post office to get more of those forever stamps with the pickups on them. Guess what? They were not available. Whether they ever will be again is uncertain according to the clerk. Several of the big department stores we once knew are now out of business with more threatening to join them. Have you gone to a store to buy a product you have come to like and depend upon, only to find it has been discontinued or unavailable? You may have gone back to a familiar vacation spot only to discover your favorite farmer’s market or cider stand is long gone. We may start to believe the maxim, “Nothing is forever.” If we live long and prosper this might be nearly true—but only in the physical arena.

When we switch to the spiritual realm a good concordance will show how differently our God operates. Look for verses using: never, always, forever, faithful, unchanging, steadfast, etc, etc.

Here are just a few of my favorite promises that will not be discontinued. God’s love endures forever. (Jer 33:11) His righteousness does also. (Isa 51:8) His truth can live in us and be with us forever. (2 Jo 1:2) After death we can be with the Lord forever. (1 Thes 4:16-17) The Holy Spirit was sent to be with us forever. (Jn 14:16-17)

God the Father is faithful. (1 Cor 1:9) (1 Cor 10:13) So is Christ Jesus. (2 Thes 3:3)(Heb 3:6) Their precepts are steadfast for ever and ever. (Ps 111:8) Our God will never leave us nor forsake us. (Heb 13:5) (Dt 3:6) In fact, nothing external can ever separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Nothing external such as: …life, death, angels, demons…nor anything in all creation. (Rom 8:38-39)However, we still have free will and can reject all these promises. We are told not to turn away from the living God (Heb 3:12-15) nor to fall away. (Heb 6:4-6) We have to “…hold on…” (Heb 3:6) and be faithful unto death to receive the crown of life. (Rev 2: 10) God does not discontinue, but we can!
